Taking part in the competition
How do i get started in the wro competition?
It is genuinely easy. Find yourself a team of 2-3 and an adult coach, decide on the competition category that you want to join and then read the guidelines.
I want to compete but I don’t have an adult coach, what do i do?
Any adult that you can trust and can reliably help you will do. They don’t need to have any technical ability, they just need to be able to be the main contact point and to help with the logistics of getting to the competition events.
I want to volunteer to help out, what do I do?
If you want to volunteer there will be plenty of opportunities to help with events, to mentor teams or, if you have a group of young people wanting to take part, to coach. Please visit the Volunteer with WRO UK page for more information. Please be aware that a volunteering role may require a check from the Disclosure and Barring Service if it meets the criteria.
What robotics kit do I need to participate?
You can choose the robotics hardware and software that you consider most affordable and suitable. If you don’t have any then you may want to look carefully at the competition category that you wish to enter before purchasing. Further information can be found here.
What are the costs of taking part in wro?
To compete in the regional tournaments many of the costs are one-off. The robot kit can be used for as many seasons as you wish and the brick sets for the RoboMission fields are reused each year.
The costs for each year will be the printing or purchasing of playmats for RoboMission/ any costs for your display for Future Innovators; annual registration fee; and, travel to the regional tournament.
What happens if I progress from the regional competition?
If you are one of the teams selected to go forward from the regional tournament then you’ll be taking part in the national final. For those teams that then perform well at the national finals they will be offered the chance to represent the UK at the Open events and the International Final which, in 2025, will be in Singapore.
